Tag selector
When in the template content editor, you can type free text and format that text using the standard editing buttons. You can also insert tags to be substituted with contextual data when this template is used to generate a document.
You can place any of the supported Elevate tags in your templates at the appropriate position in the text, by either typing it directly or by referring to the tag selector panels below the editor and clicking the Add button alongside the relevant tag. This will insert the tag at the current cursor position, or you can copy and paste it elsewhere in the template.
Substituting tags
When you generate a document based on this template all tags which can be replaced with appropriate contextual data will be substituted with the actual value, if available.
For example:
If your template contains the text
"Dear --FIRST_NAME--"
and this is used in the context or Larry Lennon, a landlord on your system, the generated document will contain the text
"Dear Larry".
Tags which cannot be substituted
Tags which cannot be replaced will be left in-situ and will be obvious to the user so that they may be either removed or manually edited. This may result from incomplete data being available on the relevant record, or use of a tag which has no meaning in the current context.
For example:
If your template contains the text
"Dear --FIRST_NAME-- --TENANCY_RENTAL_PERIOD--"
and this is used in the context or Larry Lennon, a landlord on your system, the generated document will contain the text
"Dear Larry--TENANCY_RENTAL_PERIOD--"
since the second tag has no meaning in this situation.
