If a tenant has made an overpayment which has a resulted in a credit balance on their account, you can allocate this available credit to outstanding rent or charges, which most likely were not due at the time the overpayment was recorded.
Be aware, that overpayments are not always immediately obvious from the tenant's overall balance since the amount of rent (or charges) outstanding may be equal to the overpayment on account. Look out for a positive amount reflected in the Credit / Overpayments section of the client account balance.
STEP-BY-STEP
- If you attempt to record a new receipt from the tenant, any overpayment on account will be shown in the client account breakdown so you may wish to allocate that credit instead, or at least prior to recording a new receipt. Click the overpayment balance to view the available credit(s).
- From the tenant overview, click the Credit / Overpayment value to see the available credit(s).
- Click Apply Credit.
- A list of outstanding charges will be shown, along with the amount of credit available. Manually allocate credit to the charge(s).
- Click Save.
