If a tenant has an overpayment or credit balance on their account, you can refund the tenant any amount up to the credit balance available.
In reality, you may not wish to refund overpayments if there are likely to be future rent charges or other fees/expenses applied. You may prefer to use the overpayment to pay these future charges in advance, or retain the funds until they become due and allocate credit to the charges then.
STEP-BY-STEP
- Within the relevant account, most likely the client account, click the Credit / Overpayments value to view the actual underlying credit(s).
- Click a specific credit to refund; these must be refunded individually.
- On the credit overview page, which shows where the credit originated from, click Cash Refund.
- Complete details of the refund transaction, including the refund value (up to the full credit value available) and date.
- Click Save.
