A tenancy's key dates (start and end) may need to change for two reasons, typically. Firstly, if they have been entered in error, and secondly if a tenancy is being extended.
You may also consider changing the tenancy to periodic if it is going to run on open-ended.
STEP-BY-STEP
- Navigate to the relevant tenancy and select Tenancy > Full Details. There is also a quick link on the Key Dates section of the tenancy overview to modify the dates.
- On the tenancy details screen, select Options > Update.
- Change the start or end date, as appropriate.
- Click Save.
Associated rent schedule
Bear in mind, though, that this will not affect the rent schedule which actually applies the rent. You may need to update the rent schedule(s) separately.
If the rent schedule is set to apply to the end of the tenancy and you extend the tenancy end date, that will work fine, and rent will continue to be applied till the new tenancy end date.
However, if the rent has already been applied and you change the end date back to a date prior to the current period, then you may need to modify or delete that rent, since it may no longer be valid.
An alert will be shown if any rent charges extend outside of the defined start and end date period.
